İstanbul Başakşehir will hope to upset the calculations of Paris Saint-Germain when the Turkish club travel to Paris for the last group match of Group ‘H’ in the UEFA Champions League. PSG start this last round top of the group standings with nine points, which is the same as Manchester United and RB Leipzig. Başakşehir are bottom of the standings with three points.
PSG will go through by avoiding a defeat in this match. However, they will target a win as that would see them finish top of the group. Should PSG lose this match, they can still go through to the knockouts provided the other match doesn’t end in a draw.
PSG defeated Montpellier 3-1 over the weekend making it two wins with the same score in a row. Crucially, the 3-1 win over Manchester United, anchored by Neymar, has got them back on track in the group. They have now won three of their last four games in the competition and have their group destiny in their own hands. Even more importantly, they are playing at home which suits their style of play. PSG have won five of their last six Champions League home matches, with the 2-1 loss to Manchester United in this season being the lone blemish.
Başakşehir were held to a 1-1 draw over the weekend in the Turkish Super Lig, which mean they are winless in six competitive games – losing four. Apart from the 2-1 surprise win over Manchester United at home in the competition, Başakşehir have struggled for impact. They have now lost six of their last seven Champions League matches including four of five this campaign. Five of those six losses saw Başakşehir concede at least two goals, while four came with a scoring blank.
