Sevilla were made settle for second-place in Group E as they succumb to a 4-0 defeat to Chelsea last week and now, they are back on the road to take on the eliminated Rennes who are set to finish bottom.
Rennes will finish 4th in their first ever Champions League campaign after a damning 1-0 loss to Krasnodar meant they lost out on third place with the Russians claiming the Europa League spot. The French side will only be competing domestically after Christmas but it’s been a pretty horrid couple of months for the club no matter where they have been playing. Rennes were unbeaten through their first six games and won four matches but since the end of September they have managed just one victory from 13 games. They are 9th in Ligue 1 and find themselves out of Europe after a horrible run of six defeats from seven matches and they have scored just two goals in that period.
As for Sevilla they were on the wrong end of a 1-0 result with Real Madrid on Saturday in La Liga but unlike Madrid, the Andalusian club have booked their place in the last-16 of the Champions League. They secured qualification in game week four as they won their third group game with a 2-1 win over Krasnodar in Russia and they are back on the road in Europe against a Rennes side who they narrowly defeated 1-0 in the reverse fixture.
