AC Milan v Sampdoria Betting Tips [20 May 2023]

Fifth-placed AC Milan will take on Serie A bottom-club Sampdoria on Saturday evening. The host's Champions League qualification hopes took two major knocks last week. Following a crucial 2-0 loss to Spezia last weekend, AC Milan were knocked out of the Champions League by Inter Milan three days later. AC Milan are now four points behind Lazio in the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot and just three points above Atalanta in seventh place. That loss to Spezia brought an end to a seven-match unbeaten run for AC Milan, which included three wins and four draws. The hosts have managed 11 wins, four draws, and conceded two losses in 17 home matches this season. They come into this one unbeaten in their last seven matches at Estadio Giuseppe Meazza, winning four and drawing three. AC Milan won the reverse fixture 2-1 last September and will see this as a perfect opportunity to pick up a convincing win that could give them a boost to finish the season strongly.  

Meanwhile, Sampdoria will have to prepare for life in Serie B, as they are the only side who have already been confirmed as relegated with three games left to play. The visitors are at the foot of Serie A and have managed just 18 points this season, 12 points fewer than Spezia in 17th place. Sampdoria have managed just three wins and nine draws this season while losing a whopping 23 matches. Following their 1-1 draw to Empoli last week, Sampdoria have now failed to win any of their last eight league matches, losing five and drawing three. Their away record is also very poor this season, with two wins, three draws, and 12 losses in 17 matches on the road. The visitors haven’t won any of their last nine away matches, which includes seven losses. Having not beaten AC Milan in any of their last seven meetings, and based on their current form, it’s hard to make much of a case for Sampdoria in this one.

Sampdoria have been by far the worst side in Serie A this season, and while AC Milan have not been great in recent weeks, they are still the favourites to win this one. The hosts would have had a week to recoup, and we expect them to put in a solid performance to keep the pressure on the sides above them heading into the penultimate week.
