Aston Villa remain the only team with a 100% record in the Premier League this season with four wins from four to start the campaign. Ross Barkley’s late strike against Leicester City on Sunday evening gave the Villains all three points at the King Power Stadium as they moved to second with a game in hand over those around them. Meanwhile, Leeds United were handed their second defeat of the season as they lost 1-0 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers despite dominating for large parts of the game, leaving the Whites 10th in the table.
Dean Smith and Villa recruited very well in the Summer and the signings are paying dividends in the early weeks of the campaign. Barkley was a shrewd acquisition on loan from Chelsea on deadline day and he scored a late winner on Sunday while new goalkeeper Emi Martinez kept his third clean sheet in four games since joining from Arsenal. Matty Cash has been a revelation at right-back while Ollie Watkins has added potency up front. Villa shocked the world with a 7-2 mauling of league champions Liverpool before the international break and those two goals remain the only couple they have conceded so far this campaign in the Premier League. The home side have opened their account at Villa Park this term with two successive wins but Marcelo Bielsa did take his side here in his first season in the Championship back in December 2018 and left with all three points.
Leeds, however failed to take anything from Monday night’s match at home to Wolves and despite playing most of the football they couldn’t carve out enough clear-cut chances. Although Leeds have scored nine goals already this season and managed to score three goals in a 4-3 defeat at Anfield in their opening game before travelling to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United and earning a hard-fought 1-0 win. Bielsa’s side have scored in four of their five league games so far and I do think they have enough going forward to cause Villa problems despite their apparent improvement at the back.
This Premier League season has been absolutely packed with goals and perhaps the removal of fans has been a determining factor. Aston Villa have improved at the back but I can't see Leeds under Bielsa going two games without a goal and obviously Villa have been brilliant going forward themselves so back both teams to score here.
