When Novak Djokovic reached his first Grand Slam quarter final, Ben Shelton was only two years old. Now in 2023 they meet in the semi-finals of the US Open. It's been another massive week for 20-year-old Ben Shelton who seems to have his best performances in hard court Grand Slams. He reached the last eight of the Australian Open and now he's in the last four in New York. If he can cause a big shock and defeat Djokovic, he'll be the first American to make the final of the US Open men's singles tournament since Andy Roddick in 2006. Shelton was ranked 47th at the start of this tournament but is now up to 19th in the live rankings. The last round saw him beat fellow American and tenth seeded Frances Tiafoe.
Novak Djokovic is hoping for a spectacular Sunday and Monday. He's already guaranteed to be the new world number one when the new list is published on Monday. Before that, he hopes his return to New York will end with a fourth US Open title which would be a record-extending 24th Grand Slam title. In the tournament before this Grand Slam began, he won the Cincinnati Masters, beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final. He's already won two Grand Slam titles in 2023. His last 11 Grand Slam semi-finals have all been won with just one lost since here nine years ago. He came close to losing in the third round when dropping the first two sets to Laslo Djere but has been in unstoppable form since. Djokovic can win this in straight sets.
