The Vitality Stadium will this Monday play host to Bournemouth facing Southampton, in a Premier League match. The Cherries welcome the Saints in this match which both teams will be seeking to return to winning ways.
While Bournemouth can claim to be having a better season than Southampton, it hasn’t been great for them. They have one win in the league, against struggling Everton. Meanwhile, they are coming from back-to-back losses, in matches they also failed to score.
Understandably though, these were against top sides – Chelsea and Liverpool. A 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in their most recent match marked their biggest defeat of the season.
Andoni Iraola’s side has one win only in the last five home league matches.
Southampton are among the five teams yet to win a match in the league this season. They will be hoping for a break here, as they also seek to rise from the relegation zone. It will not help them a lot that in their five league matches so far, they managed just two goals.
In terms of attack, they are the weakest but defensively Southampton are doing better than most teams in the lower end. Russell Martin’s side isn’t getting the reintroduction they expected in the Premier League.
Only goal difference is keeping them from the bottom of the standings but a win could massively change things in their favor. Southampton went within minutes of their first league win last week, when Ipswich Town scored a stoppage time equalizer to deny them.
One of the lowest scoring teams in the Premier League will be featuring in this game – Southampton. The Saints have managed just two goals in the league this season, and here they face a team with an almost similar trend.
In three of their last four matches, Bournemouth failed to score. As two sides with unstable scoring runs clash, we don’t expect to see much on that front. Our prediction for Bournemouth v Southampton is for at least one team not to score.
