The new Championship season begins with two clubs who are likely to be in the promotion mix this season. Bournemouth lost in the play-offs last season and host West Bromwich Albion, who were relegated from the Premier League last season. Both clubs have new managers for this 2021/22 season. Bournemouth now have former Fulham boss Scott Parker in charge, while Albion have Valerian Ismael, who took Barnsley into the play-offs last season. The home side haven't done a great deal in the transfer window with Leif Davis on loan from Leeds United and Emiliano Marcondes arriving on a free transfer from Brentford. Bournemouth were the only side relegated from the Premier League in the 2019/20 season not to make an immediate return. They were in the automatic promotion places for a while but a run of four straight losses early in 2021 ended those hopes. The Cherries eventually ended in sixth place, 14 points behind second and then lost to Brentford in the play-offs, despite winning the home first leg 1-0. They kicked off this season with a 5-0 home win over MK Dons in the EFL Cup. Home form last season saw them win 13 games, only Watford and Norwich City won more.
West Bromwich Albion only lasted one season in the Premier League. They always looked like going down and finished one from bottom in the table, 13 points from safety and only five league wins all season. Their new boss has signed Alex Mowatt on loan from his former club Barnsley and also Matt Clarke on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. West Brom are likely to flourish back in the Championship but away form wasn't good last season or in their promotion winning season in 2019/20. Only one of their last five away games in that promotion winning season were won and last season in the Premier League they only had two away wins. Bournemouth can be backed to get a win here, a side bet on both teams scoring is also advisable or combine it with a Bournemouth victory.
