The second matchday of Group 4 in League C of the UEFA Nations League kicks off this weekend with Bulgaria hosting Georgia at the Ludogorets Arena in Razgrad. A matchup between two teams undergoing near polar opposites in regards to their respective form, Bulgaria has seen their winless run stretched to five matches while Georgia has extended their unbeaten run to six. The 73rd FIFA ranked Bulgaria will be playing their second consecutive home match and will be desperate for the full three points here. Failure to capitalize on home field advantage would see the Lions facing an uphill battle as three of the remaining four matches would be away from home. For the visiting Georgia, it’s been quite the purple patch for the 85th ranked team in the world. Following their convincing 4-0 win over Gibraltar, the Crusaders have now won five of their last six with an impressive 2-0 home win against Sweden and a 1-0 away win against Bosnia & Herzegovina the two standout results.
Everything went to plan for Georgia in the opening fixture, although anything other than the three points would have been a shock considering Gibraltar’s 203rd ranking is one of the worst in the world. Georgia finished their World Cup qualifying campaign with a record of 2-1-5 in what was a tough group with Spain, Sweden and Greece. Bulgaria managed a 2-2-4 World Cup qualifying record, unsurprising given the strength of their group as well, but it's their recent home results that deserve a closer look. The Bulgarians were 2-0-2 in their group at home and are 3-1-0 at home in their last four – proving to be a formidable side when playing on home soil. While the recent five game winless run is certainly not a good look, four of those matches were played away from home and they managed to take a point off a better team in North Macedonia with a 1-1 draw their last time taking the field.
