Canada stumbled in their latest World Cup qualification match but are still so much in control of their fate as they prepare to host Jamaica in the penultimate game of the qualifiers. Ahead of the Round 13 matches in the CONCACAF region, Canada top the table with 25 points, while Jamaica have eight points. Canada go into this game on the back of a 1-0 loss away to Costa Rica; their first loss in this round of the qualifiers. They however need just a point from this game to secure their ticket and will be going for more than just a draw, seeking to finish their home matches on a high. In this game, Mark Anthony Faye will be unavailable after picking a red card in the Costa Rica game but Canada will have enough options for replacement. In four of their last five matches, Canada have scored at least two goals and they have three clean sheets in that run. They go into this game having scored in both halves in three of their last five matches in World Cup qualification. At home, Canada are unbeaten in their last 10 matches in World Cup qualification, winning nine and scoring two or more in eight of the 10.
Jamaica on the other hand, have a long winless run despite having a number of star players in their ranks. Ahead of this game, they had to come from down to draw 1-1 with minnows El Salvador. They haven’t won any of their last seven matches and even as they go to this game, their race is over; they can’t get to the playoff spot. In the last five matches, they’ve lost four. With just one win in the last 10 matches, they aren’t on a very confident standing going into this game. Their attack has also not been functioning really well, the team scoring more than a goal in just two of their last 10 matches. In World Cup qualification, they have one win in the last 16, and lost nine in the process. It isn’t any better away from home in the World Cup qualifiers, where they have five losses in the last eight.
Canada have a fine run going into this game, though they lost their last game. Playing at home, they aren surely expected to bring out their best, especially this being their last home game of the qualifiers. Jamaica are in poor form and they will struggle against Canada. Back Canada to leas in both halves.
