The final fixture for group A in the Africa Cup of Nations sees leaders Cameroon take on third place Cape Verde at the Paul Biya Stadium. Cameroon have been enjoying the advantage of hosting the competition and are looking set to make a deep run in the knockout stages. They are the tournament's leading scorers with six goals in their two wins so far and have already secured their place in the next round, qualifying with a game in hand after a convincing 4-1 victory over Ethiopia. The Indomitable Lions will face a Cape Verde side who are battling for qualification, having won their first match 1-0 against a ten-men Ethiopia side before dropping their second match 1-0 against Burkina Faso. Cape Verde are currently third in the group and, while four of the best third place teams will qualify, the Blue Sharks know that getting a point here would make it very likely they get through to the next round.
These two sides faced off not too long ago where Cape Verde recorded a 3-1 victory over Cameroon in the qualifiers for the AFCON in March. The island country has been in terrific form lately and despite losing their last match, they had previously gone five unbeaten. They will be faced with a tough task however, as the hosts are on a streak of six straight victories. Cameroon have really been firing on all cylinders and have scored an impressive 15 goals during that six game winning streak. With powerful striker Vincent Aboubakar leading the scoring charts with four goals to his name, his side will be confident of extending their unbeaten streak and should find themselves netting at least a goal in this one. With Cameroon already through to the next round, a 1-1 draw is a result that both teams would probably accept. Cape Verde should fancy their chances to get a point from this one, given their good form and recent success against this Cameroon side.
While goals have been hard to come by for a lot of teams in this tournament so far, Cameroon have been playing an attacking style which has left them vulnerable at the back. Cape Verde will know they have to find the net if Cameroon score first which could see this game open up. We're going to back both teams to score in this one as a 1-1 draw is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.
