We're guaranteed a first time finalist in the top half of the Wimbledon draw. Top seed Carlos Alcaraz faces the sixth seed Holger Rune for a place in the semi-final. The winner will take on either third seed Daniil Medvedev or the unseeded Christopher Eubanks. For all four players it's their first time in the last eight at Wimbledon. Alcaraz had only previously made it to the fourth round of this grass court Grand Slam. He showed his ability on this surface by winning the Queen's Club tournament. Thst form has been carried into this tournament and he has an excellent chance of making the final. The Spaniard has dropped two sets to date. He went a set down to Matteo Berrettini in the fourth round but recovered well to win the next three, each of them by a 6-3 scoreline.
Sixth seeded Holger Rune can climb to fourth in the rankings if beating Alcaraz. Before this year he'd never even won a match or a set at Wimbledon. He's much more comfortable on clay as shown by two successive Roland Garros quarter finals. Unlike Casper Ruud, he is starting to put in much better performances on grass. That was shown in the Queen's Club tournament where he made it to the quarter finals. His maiden win at Wimbledon was achieved with a straight sets win over wild card George Loffhagen. Since then he's beaten two seeds to make it to the last eight. It was difficult for him in round three as he had to come from two sets to one down to defeat the 31st seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Round four wasn't easy either as he overcame 21st seeded Grigor Dimitrov after losing the first. He's 1-1 in previous meetings with Alcaraz. The Spaniard beat him in the NextGen tournament (first to four games in a set) but Rune got the win in the Paris Masters last year when Alcaraz retired in the second set. Alcaraz is our tip to win this match, don't be surprised if there's a tie-break.
