Third seed Daniil Medvedev and 13th seed Alex de Minaur will rekindle their rivalry on Monday at the US Open fourth-round. Medvedev overcame the challenge of Sebastian Baez in the third round and won in straight sets. It was his second 3-0 victory of the tournament. It allowed him to make the second week of competition for the fifth season in a row here. Medvedev’s quest for a second major title at Flushing Meadows is very much on track. He won the title here in 2021 and has also finished as runner-up once. The Russian world number three is having a dominant 2023 season. He has won 52 of the 63 matches he has played which has placed him third in the ATP Race. Thirty of his victories have come in 35 outings on hard court and so too have three of his five titles. Medvedev has defeated de Minaur four times in their six meetings with three of those wins coming on hard court.
Alex de Minaur earned his second win against Medvedev three weeks ago on his way to the final in Toronto. He will be confident of repeating this result, especially with the form he has been on. The Australian has won nine of his last 11 matches which have all been on hard court. His latest victory was a dominant one against 23rd seed Nicolas Jarry in the third round. He won in straight sets and lost just six games with the match lasting an hour and 45 minutes. de Minaur has won his last two rounds by straight sets. He is now back up to 12th in the live ranking which is his career high. The one-time US Open quarterfinalist has compiled a 36-18 record and has recorded 23 of his victories on hard court. His strong form in 2023 has seen him win one title and finish as runner-up a further three times. The winner here will face either eighth-seed Andrey Rublev or unseeded Jack Draper in the quarterfinals.
