DR Congo are hoping to get one of the five slots from Africa at the 2022 World Cup. In the final round of qualification matches, they will be at home for the first leg to take on Morocco, having topped Group J of the second round with 11 points. None of the nations taking part at this stage had fewer points than DR Congo at the group stage and it follows that DR Congo are the underdogs in this fixture. The central Africa nation is also the only participant at this stage that didn’t participate at AFCON 2021 in January. All that will matter for little though, as they go in search of only their second appearance at the World Cup. They have three wins and as many clean sheets in their last five World Cup qualification matches and in the same competition, they haven't lost at home in the last 11. In DR Congo’s only competitive game against Morocco, they won 1-0 at AFCON 2017 and they will be hoping to avoid the fact that their two losses in the last 21 home matches in this competition were against North African nations - Egypt and Tunisia. To get there, they have to improve on the fact that in their last 11 matches, they’ve managed to score more than a goal in just three matches, and they’ve failed to score in three of their last five matches.
Morocco on the other hand have lost just once in their last five matches but carry to this game a very good scoring run. Each of their last three matches has produced over 2.5 goals and they’ve scored in each of their last 18 matches. They’ve also been great defensively, going to this game with six clean sheets in 10, a run that has given them seven wins in the 10 games. In those 10 matches, Morocco have scored two or more goals in seven of their last 10 matches. In World Cup qualification, Morocco are unbeaten in their last 12 matches and have won each of the last eight. In 12 World Cup qualification matches, they’ve kept 11 clean sheets and scored two or more goals in nine of the last 10. The North Africans go into this game with four straight wins away from home in World Cup qualification.
DR Congo have a good run at home, but will encounter tougher opponents here. Morocco have gone unbeaten in their last 12 World Cup qualification matches and the last eight are straight wins. They are doing better defensively, which could be a major difference here. Back Morocco to win.
