Everton will target a fourth straight win in the English Premier League for the first time since 1969/70 against a Brighton & Hove Albion side that has never won against them at Goodison Park in all competitions. Everton started the season with three straight wins – 1-0 over Tottenham, 5-2 over West Bromwich Albion, and 2-1 over Crystal Palace. Brighton, on the other hand, had a roller-coaster ride so far. After a 3-1 loss to Chelsea, Brighton defeated Newcastle 3-0, but were defeated 3-2 by Manchester United in controversial circumstances.
Everton’s bright start has left their fans drooling in hope, as the last time they won four straight matches at the start of a season they went on to win the title. Furthermore, Everton have won each of their three Premier League home matches against Brighton, scoring six goals and conceding just one. Playing at home, Everton have lost only one of their last 13 Premier League matches – winning and drawing six each. Only two times during this sequence Everton conceded more than a single goal – something which manager Carlo Ancelotti would be hopeful of recreating.
Brighton were frustrated by Manchester United in their previous match, as they hit the woodwork five times and were denied by a cruel penalty beyond final whistle. That said, the Seagulls have already conceded three goals each in two of their matches and defence remains an area of concern. Travelling to Goodison Park hasn’t worked out well for Brighton, who have drawn two and lost six of their previous eight visits. That said, Brighton have managed to stay unbeaten in eight Premier League away matches – winning three and drawing five. Five of those eight ended with under 2.5 goals which might have been in play if not for recent defensive displays from Brighton.
Everton have looked confident in each of their three wins this season, as Carlo Ancelotti continues his pursuit of taking the Toffees to Europe. With an old record in sight and with favoured opponents Brighton & Hove Albion in town, backing them to do the job looks a prudent option.
