Matchday 27 sees second place Fulham take on 15th place Bristol City on Saturday at Craven Cottage. The hosts are coming off a scintillating performance which saw them dismantle Reading 7-0. It was an emphatic response for a team that had failed to win in five matches and should be read as a real statement of intent by the strongest team in the division. Fulham trail leaders Bournemouth by one point but have a game in hand and are positioned nicely for an automatic promotion to the Premier League. The visitors will get another crack at their opponents, having just lost to Fulham 1-0 at home in the FA Cup last weekend. Bristol City sit in 15th place with 30 points and look set for a mid table finish this year. They have a comfortable 11 point lead over the relegation zone but trail the playoff spots by 10 points. Bristol’s last league encounter was a thrilling 3-2 home win over Millwall.
This is a match that is set up well to see goals with both teams trending towards overs, especially Bristol when they play away from home. The Robins on average concede two goals every away match and have the fourth worst defense in the division, giving up 39 goals through 25 matches. They will have a tough time keeping the hosts off the score sheet as the Cottagers are the highest scoring team in the league, netting 58 goals so far - an average of 2.41 goals per match. Fulham’s last match was important, not only because of the huge margin of victory but finally snapping their winless run in such dominating fashion should give this side the massive confidence boost. Expect Fulham to continue their momentum here and knock a couple of goals past a leaky Bristol City defense.
We’re going to back over 2.5 goals in this one. Fulham could easily cover that total single handedly but Bristol have a decent chance of scoring in this one as well. Unfortunately for the visitors they might be catching Fulham at the wrong time and it wouldn’t surprise any of us if the hosts record a big margin of victory here.
