Morocco clinched their place in the knockout stages with a 2-0 win over Comoros in their last match and will be looking to make it three wins from three when they take on Gabon in the final matchday of Group C. Both sides are likely through to the next round after Gabon earned a deserved point against Ghana thanks to a last-gasp goal by substitute Jim Allevinah. Gabon currently sit second in the group with four points and with the four best third place sides going through, the Panthers have all but secured their place in the knockout stages. They might find it tough to continue their unbeaten start to the tournament however, as Morocco has really impressed in their first two matches - winning both with two clean sheets and dominating in possession and chances created.
There is a sense that the Atlas Lions are a bit overlooked, with their pre tournament outright odds of around 10/1 and current odds of 6/1 both relatively high for a side that has now won 14 of it’s last 15 matches. Morocco pose a genuine threat to win the title and boast a talented squad. Attacking PSG fullback Hakimi is the stand out name but nearly every position sees an established player plying their trade across Europe’s top leagues. Gabon, on the other hand, have been overperforming given their relative lack of big names. Despite missing their two star players in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina, they’ve managed to put in two very professional performances. Their good run could come to an end here though, as Morocco look to have too much talent and the lack of a match winner within the Gabon squad might finally catch up to them.
We’re going to back Morocco to win this match on the 1X2 line. Although they know that they will finish as group leaders even with a draw, the price is simply too good to pass up for a team that has been as dominant as Morocco has been for the better part of the last 15 months. Keep things simple and back the Atlas Lions to record a victory here and finish the group stages with a perfect 100% record.
