Gambia can leave a big mark at AFCON if they can avoid defeat to Tunisia, to see them qualify for the second round on their first ever participation in the competition. They go into Match Day 3 of AFCON 2021 leading Group F with four points, one ahead of third placed Tunisia. This game holds the key to who progresses from this group and Gambia will be full of confidence after drawing with Mali 1-1 in their last game. Their opening two matches have been tight, and Gambia aren’t very great in attack so it has been a bit energy-sapping for them, but they’ve come out strong. In their last seven matches, at no point have the goals hit over 2.5 and they’ve scored more than one goal in just two of their last 10 matches. They’ve however failed to score in just three of their last 10 matches.
Tunisia recovered from their loss to Mali with a resounding 4-0 win over Mauritania in their second group game. They will be fired up for the Gambia game as they know it is a must-win clash. Defensively Tunisia have left a lot to be desired; they have two clean sheets only in five matches. In those five matches, they’ve failed to score in two, but they’ve scored two or more goals in two of the last five matches. Three of their last four matches have produced under 2.5 goals and they have two wins only in their last five AFCON matches. Tunisia have one recognized meeting with Gambia, that came back in 2010 in a friendly match, which Tunisia lost 2-1.
Gambia have done well in their opening game and here they get to face another tough challenge. For Tunisia, this is a must-win game and they will definitely step up after their 4-0 win over Mauritania. Tunisia are more experienced at this stage and though Gambia have done well, this promises to be a bigger test. We will back Tunisia to win here.
