Ghana’s run in the 2021 AFCON is hanging dangerously as they go to their final Group C game, against Comoros, which is now a must-win clash for the African giants. Ghana head to the game with one point, in third place, while Comoros have no point. Ahead of this game, Ghana seemed to be cruising to a win in their second group game against Gabon but it ended 1-1 and with ugly scenes. Benjamin Tetteh was shown a red card after full time and will be suspended for this game. Ghana are winless in three straight matches and failed to score in two of them; in their last five matches, they have just one win, a controversial one against South Africa. Their last eight matches have all ended in under 2.5 goals and despite all their quality, Ghana have managed just two wins in their last 109 AFCON matches.
Comoros on the other hand, haven’t had a very welcome introduction to football at the high stage. Their first taste of AFCON has them on two straight losses and zero goals. The 2-0 loss to Morocco was the third straight defeat suffered by Comoros. In the last five competitive matches, Comoros are winless. For them to have any chance of at least getting to the second round, they have to win this game. It is their poor defence coupled with a low return of goals that could cost them. In the last 11 matches, Comoros have managed just three clean sheets while in four of their last five matches, it has ended in under 2.5 goals.
All signs point to Comoros heading back home after just the first round of this competition. Without much to lose, they will be a tough opponent for Ghana who need a win at all cost. This one will not be an easy game and given both nations haven’t been scoring a lot, we will stick with under 2.5 goals.
