Their opening two matches have been underwhelming and they have failed to register a goal after two games despite having some of the most accomplished forwards in their ranks. Uruguay’s strength in recent matches has been in defence; while they have no win in their last two matches, the South Americans have three clean sheets in the last five matches. They have failed to score in four of their last six matches but only lost twice in their last 11 matches. Their goalless two matches at this competition mean they have now failed to score in three straight World Cup games. With eight clean sheets in the said 11 matches, Uruguay will be keen on improving their numbers in attack, as they must score here to progress. Competitively, Uruguay have four wins in 10 matches.

In terms of points, Ghana have the upper hand going into this game but the way they’ve played defensively in their opening two matches can make them vulnerable against Uruguay who have seasoned forwards. Uruguay need to get a win from this match. They will surely line up an attacking team and seek to upset Ghana. The focus on attack will definitely leave spaces for Ghana to exploit and with this expected to be an open game, both teams scoring is a possibility.
