Shakhtar Donetsk are on a quest to save their journey in Europe as they travel to Italy to face Inter on Match Day 5 of the Champions League. Shakhtar are bottom of Group D with one point from four matches while Inter have seven and are second, two points below Real Madrid. Inter will move closer to securing a second round slot with a win here and after their win over Napoli, they will be very confident they can bag three points in this. These two sides played to a 0-0 draw in their first meeting in this group but back to back wins over Sheriff have propelled Inter to second. The Italians have one loss and three wins in their last six Champions League matches. In terms of current form, they have just one loss in the last 13 matches and going into the game, they have four wins in the last five. Perhaps the biggest concern for Inter would be their defence; they’ve managed just three clean sheets in the last 10 matches.
Shakhtar get into this game needing a win to keep hopes of at least staying in European competition. The only point they have was picked from their 0-0 draw with Inter at home and they come to this game on a good run, looking to shock the Italian champions. Shakthar have scored in each of their last five matches, two or more goals in four of them, and their only loss was against Real Madrid. The other four were all wins but they have two clean sheets in two of the five matches. In Champions League action, Shakhtar have no win in their last five matches and in two of the five matches, both sides have scored. In four of the five Champions League matches, the Ukrainian giants have conceded two or more goals, with their only clean sheet being in a game against Inter.
Inter Milan go to this game as favorites but they have defensive issues; they haven’t managed a lot of clean sheets in their recent matches. However, in attack they’ve done superbly. Ukraine have sort of the same issues and in a number of their recent matches, both teams have scored. Both teams scoring is a trend in these teams’ games and there’s reason to believe this too will have both teams scoring.
