Title chasers Borussia Dortmund make the short trip southwest to take on Koln at the RheinEnergie Stadium for matchday 27 of the German Bundesliga this weekend. The visiting Dortmund sit second in the league table with 56 and trail leaders Bayern by four points. They will need to be nearly faultless in the run-in and hope that their Bavarian rivals slip up at some point if they are to have any hope of denying Bayern their 10th consecutive league crown. BVB are coming off a 1-0 away win against Mainz, making it six unbeaten for the yellow and black with two consecutive wins. The hosts, Koln, will be tough foes given their strong home performances this season. It’s been a fantastic season for the Billy Goats who sit seventh in the table and are within five points of securing a European competition spot. Koln have taken a huge leap this season after languishing around the relegation positions in the previous two campaigns.
Koln are coming off an impressive 1-0 away win against third place Leverkusen but Steffan Bumguart’s side were extremely fortunate to walk away with the three points in that match. Leverkusen outplayed the Billy Goats for large stretches and squandered four clear cut chances while Koln failed to register a single one despite the goal scored. They will need to perform much better in this upcoming fixture as Dortmund have been one of the Bundesliga’s most ruthless attacking sides. Marco Rose’s side flexed their defensive muscles by recording back to back clean sheets in 1-0 wins but that specific scoreline has been quite a rarity this season. Dortmund are more often than not involved in high-scoring affairs and they average the third highest total goals per match at 3.96. The visitors will be at a slight rest disadvantage here having played midweek but should still have enough to see them through with the three points.
