Liverpool are in the Europa League for the first time since 2016. They travel to LASK Linz for their opening game in Group E with Union-Saint Gilloise and Toulouse also to play. The Reds only finished fifth in the Premier League last season so failed to qualify for the Champions League. It's gone well for them this season and their 3-1 win at Wolves on Saturday took them top of the table for a few hours. They ended the weekend in third place, two points behind leaders Manchester City. The season began with a draw at Chelsea but since then Jurgen Klopp's team have won four successive league games with ten goals scored. They'll play a weakened line-up for this game but have a strong squad and should still win this match.
LASK Linz had to get through the play-off round to get to the Europa League group stage. They beat Zrinjski Mostar 3-2 on aggregate, winning the home first leg 2-1. The Austrian side had to come from behind to get a 1-1 draw in the return away leg. LASK reached the last 16 of the Conference League last season. They won a group that included Maccabi Tel Aviv, Alashkert and HJK winning five of their six games. The last 16 saw them knocked out by Slavia Prague 7-5 on aggregate. They are currently third in the Austrian Bundesliga after seven games, five points behind leaders Salzburg. Their most recent match was a 3-1 away win at Austria Klagenfurt, extending their unbeaten run to seven games. This is tougher though and we tip Liverpool to win the match.
