Red-hot Liverpool will look to continue their winning run when they host a tumbling Leeds side that is dangerously flirting with the relegation zone. The Anfield faithful will be out in full force on Wednesday as the Reds have now won seven straight matches across all competitions and five straight in the Premier League. Liverpool sit second in the table with 57 points and trail leaders Manchester City by six points. However, they do have the opportunity to cut that lead to just three points with this game in hand against Leeds after being rescheduled from matchday 19 earlier in the season. Liverpool are coming off an extremely professional 2-0 away win against Inter in the Champions League knockout stages and were able to follow that up with a come from behind 3-1 against Norwich in their latest match.
Their opponents today have been struggling with injuries all season which has resulted in a serious dip in the standings. After reaching ninth place last season in their return to the top flight, Marcelo Bielsa’s team look like they might be dragged into a late season relegation scrap given their current form. Leeds now sit 15th in the table and maintain a five point lead over the drop zone. Their last match was a 4-2 defeat against Manchester United and the Peacocks have now lost three of their last four. Bielsa’s side have managed to be involved in a number of high scoring matches this season and despite their struggles, have been able to find the back of the net with some regularity. Liverpool’s defense is of course extremely efficient but don’t count out Leeds to get on the scoresheet.
