Liverpool take on Watford at Anfield on matchday 31 of the Premier League as we head into the final stretch with a tight title race on the line. The Reds have closed the gap on leaders Manchester City and now trail by only one point with 69 points to City’s 70. It’s certainly a two-horse race with third place Chelsea a full 10 points behind Liverpool and it’s likely to come down to the wire meaning every match from here on out takes on a greater importance. Liverpool have been red hot, winning nine straight in the Premier League and are still in contention for Champions League with their quarterfinal matchup against Benfica the next fixture on the list. Their opponents, on the other hand, have struggled mightily this season and are battling against relegation. Watford sit 18th in the table with 22 points and trail safety by three points. It’s not looking good for the Hornets as 17th place Everton and 19th place Burnley both hold the advantage of having two games in hand. Watford’s last match was a 2-1 win over Southampton while Liverpool’s are coming off a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup to advance to the semi finals.
Watford did well to snap their winless run with an away victory in their last match, but it could be too little, too late as the oddsmakers have them as heavy favorites to go down. The Hornets recent history at Anfield doesn’t bode well for them as they have suffered a number of heavy defeats while not putting up much of a fight. We’re likely to see a similar kind of result here with Liverpool’s tremendous form likely to carry on. There could be a question as to whether star wingers Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will take part here due to extended minutes while playing for their countries during the break and with a Champions League tie coming up shortly. Even if they aren’t fit to start, Liverpool’s excellent depth with the likes of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota should provide more than enough to record a comfortable victory.
