Second seed Holger Rune and sixth seed Lorenzo Musetti will on Friday meet at the Queen’s Club Championship quarterfinals. The winner of this match will play either Alex de Minaur or Adrian Mannarino in the semifinals. Lorenzo Musetti is through to the quarterfinals in what is his second appearance in London. He made his debut last season and was not able to get past the first round. The Italian hasn’t played that much on grass but this season he has had his best performances yet. He won the first match of his career on grass this year and has now won four of the five fixtures he has played on the surface. His latest win saw him defeat Ben Shelton in three sets. This was his 20th win of the season in 34 matches played and saw him move up to 15th in the live ranking.
Holger Rune has been exceptional this season and his form has seen him settle firmly in the ATP top 10. He is currently ranked sixth which is a career high placing for him. The Dane has won 32 of the 43 matches he has played with two of those wins coming on grass. He switched to grass for the season in London which is his debut appearance at the tournament. And so far so good for him as he has won his two rounds without dropping a set. To book this round, he defeated home favourite Ryan Peniston by the loss of seven games. This was a bit more straightforward than his opening-round win over Maxime Cressy which lasted for almost two hours. Rune has played three finals so far and has one title win.
This is a match that could go either way as both players have been strong on grass so far this season. They also arrive with almost similar form in recent outings. Musetti, however, has more wins on grass than Rune this year. Our prediction for Lorenzo Musetti v Holger Rune is for Musetti to win.
