The match

Aryna Sabalenka bids to reach her first US Open final. The second seed faces Madison Keys who is seeded 17th with the winner facing either Coco Gauff or Karolina Muchova in the final. Sabalenka will be the new number one when the next ranking list is published and she's also top of the WTA Race. Her consistency level in Grand Slams is of the highest standard and this is her fifth straight semi-final. It's also her third in a row in New York but the 25-year-old is yet to reach the final. That stat looks like being ended as we believe she wlll beat Madison Keys. Sabalenka is yet to drop a set in this tournament and has only lost 21 games. There have been three previous matches against Keys and Sabalenka leads 2-1.

Madison Keys reached the US Open in 2017 and in the following year was beaten at this stage. This is her first Grand Slam quarter final since the 2022 Australian Open and that was also played on an outdoor hard court. Keys is up to 11th in the live rankings and will rise to ninth if winning this US Open semi-final. Keys has dropped just the one set so far in this tournament. Round three saw her have to come from behind to beat Liudmila Samsonova. Notable victories have come against Jessica Pegula and Marketa Vondrousova. This is tough though and we tip Sabalenka to win in straight sets.

Key Statistics

  • Sabalenka is yet to drop a set in this tournament.
  • Sabalenka leads Keys 2-1 in previous meetings.
  • Sabalenka's two wins both came in straight sets.
  • Sabalenka has only dropped 21 games in her five matches.

The bet of our experts

Aryna Sabalenka is the most consistent player in Grand Slams at present. This is her fourth semi-final of the year with one title being won in Australia at the start of the year. All 12 of her hard court Grand Slam matches have been won in 2023. Madison Keys has beaten two top-ten seeds so far but this looks a step too far for the American. We go for Sabalenka to win in straight sets.
