On Match Day 1 of the 2024/25 Champions League, we’ll be treated to a repeat of the 2023 final. Manchester City are set to host Inter Milan in a heavyweight clash scheduled for Wednesday. Read on for our prediction of this match.
Manchester City have had a blistering start to the season and will come here as favorites. Playing at home favors them too and Pep Guardiola’s charges will be confident of edging the Italian champions.
City are one of the five undefeated sides in the Premier League at the moment and will most definitely carry this form to Europe. The one and only time they met with Inter was in the 2023 Champions League final, which City won 1-0.
Coming into this game, they will want to match their attacking prowess with their defence. They conceded in each of the last three matches.
Inter Milan, like City, are also on an unbeaten start in their league but theirs hasn’t been perfect. There are recent cracks seen in their title defence and they haven't looked like the same side that won 29 of 38 matches last season.
Ahead of this game, Inter had to score a late goal to force a 1-1 draw with Monza. In both matches this season when they conceded first, Inter Milan dropped points. Simone Inzaghi will be keen to see an improvement here and their last visit to England could offer some inspiration.
Inter beat Liverpool 1-0 in their most recent Champions League trip to England, in 2022. Their recent away run in the competition isn’t great though – the Italians have one win in five.
Inter Milan will look at this as the perfect chance to avenge their loss to Manchester City in the 2023 final. The last time they played in England they left with a win and will hope for the same on Wednesday. Their biggest impediment is their defensive frailty away from home in this competition.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are on a good scoring form led by Erling Haaland. The Premier League champions are, however, finding it hard to keep clean sheets. Our prediction for Manchester City v Inter Milan is for both teams to score.
