League leaders Manchester City will look to increase their lead over second-place Arsenal as they host relegation-threatened Leeds United for matchday 35 of the English Premier League. City are marching towards their third consecutive league title and fifth in the last six years as they currently lead Arsenal by one point and with a game in hand. Leeds are on the opposite end of the spectrum as they are in serious risk of dropping down to the Championship. The Lillywhites currently sit 17th in the table and are even on points with 18th-place Nottingham Forest.
The oddsmakers have Manchester City as overwhelming 1.05 favorites to lift another league title as they can potentially increase their lead to four points with four matches remaining if they were to win their game in hand. City have been rampant and look to be peaking at the perfect time, playing arguably their best football in the Guardiola era. Man City have now won 14 of their last 15 matches across all competitions with a 1-1 away draw to Bayern the only blemish on what is otherwise a near flawless record. Their last outing resulted in a rather routine 3-0 home win over West Ham thanks to three second half goals.
Leeds come into this fixture with their backs against the wall as they face the mammoth challenge of trying to slow down this rampaging Manchester City team. A 4-1 away defeat to Bournemouth would ultimately spell the end of former manager Javi Gracia’s short time in charge. Sam Allardyce was the man chosen by the Leeds board to dig the team out of this hole and stave off relegation but the experienced 68-year-old will face a baptism of fire in his first game in charge of the club. Leeds have managed only one point in their last five matches, losing four matches and conceding a cringe-inducing 18 goals during that stretch. They’ve lost 12 of 17 away matches and are expected to suffer another heavy defeat here, especially given their recent lack of defensive solidity.
With a monster semi-final first leg Champions League trip to Madrid taking place just three days after this one, manager Pep Guardiola will have to ensure his side stay focused on the task at hand. However, it would be foolish to bet against City with the way they are playing at the moment. This team is capable of covering the 3.5 goals total single-handedly, especially when factoring in that Leeds have conceded at least four goals in three of their last five games. Goals certainly look to be on the docket here. Our Manchester City vs Leeds United prediction: over 3.5 goals
