Manchester United will break off from domestic action to get their European campaign underway. This Wednesday, they will be at home for a match against Dutch side Twente in the Europa League. Read on for our prediction as the Red Devils take on the Tukkers.
Things haven't panned out all smoothly for Manchester United this season. Domestically, they’ve played seven matches and won just three. At the height of their difficulties, United will come into this match seeking a fourth straight unbeaten outing.
After back-to-back wins over Southampton and Barnsley, they drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in their last game. That marked the second time in four matches that United failed to score but it was their third straight clean sheet.
Twente have also had a mixed start to their season, though they can look at recent results with some positivity. In Europe they started off in the Champions League before settling in the Europa League.
The Dutch side comes here off the back of three unbeaten matches and scored eight times in that period. Their most recent outing had the biggest score line of them, Twente overcoming Almere City 5-0 away from home.
Their scoring form is their biggest strength heading to Old Trafford and Twente will pose a constant threat. They have scored in all their eight matches so far this season, while recently improving defensively. Joseph Oosting’s men have two straight clean sheets coming here.
In the first ever meeting between these two sides, neither team will come in as favorites. Both sides are on three-match unbeaten runs and will feel capable of taking the points here.
One of the stats that stands out from their recent matches, is that both teams scoring is a rare occurrence. It has happened just twice in United’s last seven matches and Twente have two straight clean sheets ahead of this game.
Our prediction for Manchester United v FC Twente is therefore for at least one team not to score.
