Morocco have been at the World Cup five times and they will be eyeing another run out with the best in the world at Qatar 2022. One game stands between them and that target - a home game against DR Congo, who are eying a return since last participating in 1974. This tie is tied at 1-1 from the opening leg in DR Congo and it pits two sides that have been doing well in attack. Morocco have scored in all their last 19 matches; ahead of this one, they came from behind to draw DR Congo away in Kinshasa. However, they don’t defend as well as they attack; both sides have scored in Morocco’s last four matches and they have just one clean sheet in five. Morocco will be favourites to see this off given their run in World Cup qualification, where they have no loss in the last 13. They’ve won nine in that run and managed 11 clean sheets. They’ve been doing well at home too in the qualifiers, and they have five straight wins heading here.
DR Congo, just like Morocco, have failed to win any of their last two matches and going into this clash they have three wins in 10. DR Congo have been on an unstable run going into this game; in their last 10 matches they’ve managed more than a goal in just three and kept three clean sheets as well. They’ve also failed to score in three of those 10 matches and in six of their last 10 away matches in World Cup qualification, both sides have scored. Their away run in these qualifiers is however not so impressive; they’ve failed to score in three of the last five and have just one win in that run. Away from home they’ve registered just one clean sheet, while in their last 10 away matches in World Cup qualification they have managed four wins and kept just two clean sheets ahead of this one.
Each of these two sides will feel they can win this game, after the 1-1 draw in the first leg. The key to it is that there’s some level of porosity in their defences and either side will want to take advantage of this. To some extent, Morocco look like favourites here, but both sides scoring looks possible.
