Two World Cup qualifier group winners face off in a friendly match as both sides look to tune up with the Nations League and Qatar 2022 right around the corner. Denmark, having topped their group with a record of 9-0-1 and 27 points, travel to Amsterdam to take on a Netherlands team that closed out their campaign with a record of 7-2-1 to beat out second place Turkey for the top spot of group G. The hosts are on a hot run of form and have now gone seven matches without defeat since losing to the Czech Republic in the first knockout round of the Euros. The hosts have been extremely impressive when playing on home soil, winning all five of their qualifying matches while racking up 20 goals and only conceding only once at the Amsterdam Arena. Netherlands are coming off a dominant 2-0 win over Norway in their last match. The visiting Denmark had previously won six straight and were close to going perfect in the qualifying group but dropped their last match 2-0 to Scotland.
Denmark were given a huge boost with the addition to Christian Eriksen to the squad after the current Brentford player frighteningly suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during the 2020 European Championship. Unfortunately, Eriksen won’t be able to take the field here after testing positive for COVID, but his presence around the team should give the Danes a huge morale boost. Both sides are without injuries to key players so we should see a strong 11 from each with each manager surely wanting to cultivate some consistency with the Nations League kicking off again in June of this year. This should be a tight, competitive match between two teams in good defensive form. Denmark have only conceded three goals in the qualifying campaign while the Netherlands have only given up one at home. A low scoring affair could be on the cards.
