Both of these clubs lost in the FA Cup last weekend. They return to Premier League action with Newcastle in 19th place and visitors Watford in 17th. Newcastle's cup loss was far more embarrassing for them with a home defeat by League One club Cambridge United. At least Watford lost away to cup holders Leicester City. This game will have the feel of a cup tie as it's one that both sides could do with winning. Newcastle begin the weekend two points behind Watford and can escape the bottom three with a win as long as Burnley don't beat Leicester. The spending has finally got underway and this game will hopefully see Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood making their league debuts. The signing of Wood is an important one with striker Callum Wilson out injured. Newcastle have only won one league game this season and have lost four of their last five league and cup games. If they can play as they did against United (Manchester not Cambridge), then they have a great chance of winning league game number two.
Watford have already changed their coach one this season, another dismissal may be on the way. They come into this match having lost seven games in a row and theyve made sackings in the past for less than that. 11 of their last 13 games have been lost and at least two goals conceded in six of the last seven. It's amazing how the fixture list works out and Watford's next three league games are against the sides in the relegation zone. They are two points above the relegation zone but while they have a game in hand on Newcastle, Burnley have a game in hand on them. They have lost their last three away league games and unless they suddenly find the kind of form that saw them win 5-2 at Everton, another loss is on the way. Back Newcastle to win this vital game.
