The pressure is on Peru to win this game and qualify for the Inter-Confederation Play-offs. They host Paraguay (already eliminated) in their final World Cup group game and are a point clear of Colombia and two above Chile. Peru are in fifth place but after losing 1-0 in Uruguay cannot get into the top four. Sixth placed Colombia finish with an away game at bottom-of-the-table Venezuela and a win there means Peru will have to win this game. If they do beat Paraguay it will take them to Qatar as that's where the Inter-Confederation play-offs are held in June. Peru are unbeaten in their last five home World Cup qualifiers, winning three of the last four. They drew the reverse fixture in Paraguay, leading 1-0, trailing 2-1 and needing a late equalizer to get a point.
Paraguay had a 3-1 home win over Ecuador on March 24 but that's not going to help them get to Qatar, even for a play-off. Five of their previous six qualifiers had been lost and that's why they are missing their third consecutive World Cup finals. Away form in this group has seen Paraguay earn just three points and four of the last five have been lost. Even worse is the fact that they have failed to score in their last six away World Cup qualifiers. They don't have anything to play for and this looks an ideal way for Peru to clinch fifth place. Go for them to win this game.
