Poland host Sweden with the winners qualifying for the 2022 World Cup finals. The home side finished second behind England in their qualifying group. They were only a couple of points ahead of Albania (who they beat home and away) but six behind the group winners. Three of their home qualifiers were won but they were beaten by Hungary. The Polish side drew Russia in the play-off semi-finals but received a walkover into the final due to current events. They had been unbeaten in 11 home World Cup qualifiers before the loss to the Hungarians. Poland have only qualified for one of the last three World Cup finals and were knocked out in the group stages in 2018. Not since 1991 have they beaten Sweden with the last six all being lost. The most recent meeting was in the European Championships last year, losing 3-2. They trailed that game 2-0 before a couple of goals from Robert Lewandowski but the Swedes scored a last gasp winner. Poland warmed up for this game with a 1-1 draw in Scotland with a last minute equalizer.
Like their opponents, Sweden have only reached one of the last three World Cup finals but did get to the last eight in 2018. The Swedes finished second behind Spain in their groupĀ They beat the Spaniards at home and had a good chance of winning the group but then lost their final two games, away to Georgia and Spain. Sweden hosted the Czech Republic in their play-off semi-final and squeezed through 1-0 thanks to a 110th minute goal by Robin Quaison. The Swedes do struggle on their travels with only two wins in their last nine World Cup qualifiers. In all competitions it's even worse with seven of the last nine being lost. Go for Poland to get a narrow win here.
