Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid Betting Tips [4 March 2025]

Another installation of the Madrid derby is upon us, just this time in the Champions League. Real Madrid host Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the last 16 of the competition. We have a prediction for the Tuesday match. 

Real Madrid had a torrid run in the league phase, but put matters right with home and away wins against Manchester City in the play-offs. In this game, however, Real Madrid aren't at their best. 

They are fresh from a 2-1 loss to Real Betis. That defeat saw them drop to third in La Liga. In the Champions League though, they have five straight wins ahead of this game.

Atletico Madrid are coming into this match on a much stronger footing. They beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in their last game to rise to the La Liga summit, at least until Barcelona plays on Sunday. 

That was their 10th unbeaten outing, though four of those matches ended in draws. Atletico will also have a psychological advantage coming into this game. 

Apart from going top in La Liga, they are also unbeaten in the last four meetings with Real Madrid. The last three of those meetings, however, ended in draws. Like Real, they’ve also won all their five Champions League matches.

This match will mark the seventh meeting between these two in the Champions League. Three of the earlier six ended in draws at 90 minutes. Also, at the end of the 90 minutes in their last five meetings, the teams drew. The two sides are penciled to meet four times this season, and they’ve already cleared two meetings, both with 1-1 draws.

Atletico Madrid have been solid lately but come here on three draws in their last five matches. Going by these stats, our prediction for Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid is for the game to end in a draw.
