Juventus travel to Genoa to take on Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris for matchday two of the Italian Serie A. Juve will be looking to return to the summit of Italian football with two seasons passing since winning their 36th Scudetto. They were able to get the 2022/23 campaign off to a winning start after a 3-0 home win over Sassuolo with January signing Dusan Vlahovic scoring a brace. The Old Lady will come up against a Sampdoria side hoping for an improved performance after a 2-0 away defeat to Atalanta in the season opener. Samp were unable to create any clear cut chances against the Atalanta defense but did manage to strike the woodwork twice and will be cursing their poor luck.
The visitors will be without new signing Angel Di Maria after the cultured winger suffered an apparent muscular problem in the previous match. His absence is a blow for Juve given how dangerous the Argentine looked, chipping in with a goal and an assist. Even without Di Maria’s services, this Juventus side has more than enough quality to score a few goals today. Filip Kostic looks set to make his full debut after making the switch from Frankfurt in the summer and Vlahovic is always a multiple goal threat when he steps on the pitch. If both sides follow their trends from last season then this should be a high-scoring match. Juventus saw 13 of their 19 away matches last season finish with both teams getting on the score sheet while 14 of Sampdoria’s 19 home matches finished with over 2.5 total goals.
