Scotland and Hungary are set for their Group A decider as they meet on Match Day 3 at Euro 2024. Both nations are winless coming here, Hungary at the bottom without a point and Scotland third with one. After opening their campaign with a 5-1 defeat to Germany, Scotland recovered to draw 1-1 with Switzerland. They will be gunning for a win here, to enhance chances of advancing as one of the best third placed finishers. Scotland will feel their matches become more manageable as the tournament advances. As such, after a loss and a draw, they will be gunning for three points here. Scott McTominay’s goal against Switzerland means they’ve scored in all their last four matches. This scoring run is what the Tartan Army will want to bank on, going into a must win encounter. They have just one win in their last 11 matches , and that came against a much weaker opponent – Gibraltar.
Just like Scotland, Hungary must win this game if they are to stay at the tournament. In both their opening matches, the Hungarians put up a good fight. In the end though, their best efforts weren’t enough as they suffered losses to Switzerland and Germany. They had a goal disallowed in the 2-0 loss to Germany, ending their 12-game scoring run. By losing their opening two matches, Hungary aren’t living to their billing as the tournament’s dark horses. However, a big chunk of it has been down to hard luck – they played well against both Germany and Switzerland. Three defeats in their last four matches doesn’t leave them on a very confident pedestal coming into this game. They even suffered defeat in their last meeting with Scotland. However, this being the first ever competitive meeting between the two nations, Hungary will want to make it memorable.
Hungary and Scotland do not have great runs at the European Championship yet they both need three points here. Only a win will guarantee either side a chance to advance to the knockout stages. The two nations have good scoring runs coming into this game. As they both desperately need to win here, we expect an open, attacking game, and this is a promise for goals. Our prediction for Scotland v Hungary is for the game to have both teams score.
