French side Lens will travel to Sevilla hoping to kickstart their season in this Group B UEFA Champions League game. Both sides have actually struggled at the start of 2023/24 and will be seeking a start to a stable run. A win here will be key for either side, considering their other sides in this group are much stronger. In the other game in Group B, Arsenal will be hosting PSV Eindhoven. A Dodi Lukebakio strike against Las Palmas handed Sevilla their first win of the season and they will seek to build on. Sevilla had earlier lost three of their opening four matches. In the only game they didn’t lose inside 90 minutes, they fell to Manchester City on post-match penalties. The 1-0 win over Las Palmas was also Sevilla’s first clean sheet of the season. They’ve conceded two or more goals in three of their five matches but scored in each of those five games.
Lens have been poor this season; a pale shadow of the side that challenged for the Ligue 1 title last season. They haven't registered a win so far and after losing four of five league matches, are bottom in Ligue 1. An earlier 1-1 draw with Rennes on Match Day 2 served as their first, and only point so far. Coming into this game they have also dropped in attack, failing to score in the last two matches. Their most recent 1-0 home loss to Metz came after a 3-0 defeat by Monaco. In five matches, they haven't kept a clean sheet, and Franck Haise should be a worried man. Three times in just five matches, Les Sang et Or have conceded three goals. In this run of form they will struggle in Spain, especially seeing that those goals were all conceded away.
Lens lost a number of key players from last season’s team and seem to be suffering as a consequence. They go into this game seeking a first win of the season. Perhaps they can take solace in Sevilla’s own rough patch. The visitors have goals in them though and are expected to go for the kill here. Our prediction for Sevilla v Lens is for both teams to score.
