Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea will battle for a slot in the last 16 of AFCON 2021 when they face off on Match Day 3 in Group E. The winner here will be guaranteed a place in the next stage of the competition. Sierra Leone have two points so far, in third place while second placed Equatorial Guinea have three points, in second place. Sierra Leone took the tournament by storm, drawing with Algeria 0-0 on Match Day 1 then snatching a last minute 2-2 draw with Ivory Coast on Match Day 2. However, they remain winless in their last four matches, three of them draws. They have one loss in five matches, one win in the same run and three clean sheets. Sierra Leone’s numbers in attack aren’t very impressive, having failed to score in three of their last four matches and four of their last five matches have produced under 2.5 goals.
Equatorial Guinea have also shaken this competition, more so with their 1-0 win over Algeria on Match Day 2. It was a welcome recovery from their 1-0 loss over Ivory Coast in the opening game and that was their fifth clean sheet in 10 matches. Equatorial Guinea have a bit of consistency in scoring but they don’t score a lot of goals; in the last 10 matches they’ve failed to score in just two, while they’ve conceded two or more goals in just two of the 10. Each of Equatorial Guinea’s last seven matches has ended in under 2.5 goals and in AFCN action, Equatorial Guinea have failed to score in three of their last four matches. They have conceded two or more goals in just two of the last 10 AFCON matches they’ve played.
The AFCON competition has had quite a low scoring ratio across the matches and we have reason to believe this will add to that stat. These two countries haven’t been scoring a lot of goals. With the stakes in this game, they will be content to sit back and try to get something on the counter, which makes this ripe for under 2.5 goals.
