Slovan Bratislava will head out to another tough Champions League encounter when they host Manchester City on Match Day 2. The Tuesday clash will be Slovan’s second ever at this stage and we have a prediction of the match.
After a 5-1 thumping by Celtic, the team from Slovakia will be eyeing a better result at home. While there’s no question about the resources available for the two managers, Slovan will be bold going into the match.
In their last four European games on home soil, they are unbeaten. Slovan will feel this is the best time to meet City – when they’ve drawn three times in four matches. In their last three outings, Slovan posted straight wins and scored in each of the last six.
Manchester City are a wounded lot and will want to make a statement win here. They are coming from a 1-1 draw at Newcastle United, dropping points for a second straight league match.
Having failed to win on Match Day 1 as well, City will be keen to make up for lost ground. They were held to a 0-0 draw by Inter Milan. That happens to be the only match this season that City failed to score in. In their most recent match, City conceded for the sixth time in seven matches.
They are clearly struggling to match their attacking fluidity with defensive solidity. Still, they are one of the most solid sides in the Champions League, unbeaten in 24 inside 90 minutes.
Despite playing at home, Slovan Bratislava’s chances of getting something from this game remain very slim. They are coming from one heavy defeat on Match Day 1 and will want to avoid another.
However, doing that against the current Manchester City will call for a lot, especially seeing that Slovan haven't been solid defensively. City have also had their issues at the back and while we tip them as favorites, a clean sheet may not be achieved.
Our prediction for Slovan Bratislava v Manchester City is for Manchester City to win and both teams to score.
