World number 88 Nuno Borges will hope to continue with his winning start to his debut at the Rome Masters Open when he takes on fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in this second round match. This is an outdoor clay court tournament and the winner faces either 25th seed Yoshihito Nishioka or the unseeded Lorenzo Sonego in round three. Stefanos Tsitsipas is making his sixth appearance in Rome and after making it to the final last season, will hope to go one better and win the tournament this time around. The current world number five reached the final in Rome last year and in three clay court tournaments this year has reached the last eight in each of them. His best performance has been getting to the final in Barcelona but losing to Carlos Alcaraz..
Nuno Borges is in his debut appearance here in Rome and so far, so good for the Portuguese number one. Borges started things off by winning his first-round battle with the unseeded Dusan Lajovic by straight sets and allowed the Serb only one game in the final set. This should boost his confidence levels coming into this battle with a top-10 player. The win, his 18th of the season, also boosted him in the live ranking as he is up now 14 places to number 76. Another win on Saturday will catapult him back to the top 70. Just like Tsitsipas, Borges has also played two tournament finals this season, but in the Challenger Circuit, and has won both in Monterrey and Phoenix.
Our prediction for Stefanos Tsitsipas v Nuno Borges is for Tsitsipas to win in straight sets. Borges has the momentum from his first-round win and will look to unsettle Tsistipas early but the Greek has once again been superb on clay and should be able to start things off in Rome on a winning note.
