Seventh seed Ugo Humbert and unseeded Emil Ruusuvuori will face off in the second round of the Libema Open on Wednesday. Humbert started the week ranked 36th in the live ranking. In his season debut on grass, he defeated Jason Kubler 2-0 in the first round. This was his 23rd win of the season in 36 matches played. The Frenchman is having a terrific year so far and has won two titles out of three finals played in the challenger circuit. Humbert is a decent player on grass. He has so far compiled a record of 20 wins and 13 losses since making his debut on the surface in 2019. Having lost all three previous encounters with Ruusuvuori (all on clay) he will hope a change of surface will favour him here.
Ruusuvuori defeated Humbert last month in Rome to extend his streak in this fixture to 3-0. This should have him confident of dominating again on Wednesday despite his struggles on grass. The Finn made his career debut on grass in 2019 and currently has a record of nine wins and eight losses. He defeated Brandon Nakashima in three sets in the first round to take his win tally for the season to 17. Ruusuvuori has however lacked consistency this season, managing only one more win than the losses he has suffered. He is currently down six places to number 48 in the live ranking after losing 90 ranking points. The winner of this tie will advance to play either second-seed Jannik Sinner or unseeded Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals
Ruusuvuori has defeated Humbert whenever they have been pitted against each other. This however has always been on clay but on grass, Humbert is the better performer. He also has form on his side coming into this match. Our prediction for Ugo Humbert v Emil Ruusuvuori is for Humbert to win
