West Ham United will look to regain their top four position when they host Newcastle for the early kickoff this weekend for matchday 26 of the Premier League. It’s been a wonderful season for David Moyes’ side and regardless of if they are able to achieve Champions League with a top four finish, there are numerous positives that the Hammers can build upon for the future with this squad. West Ham currently sit fifth with 41 points and trail fourth place Manchester United by two points. Their last match was a 2-2 draw away at Leicester City, a match where they salvaged a point with a late Craig Dawson equalizer. Their opponents Newcastle have been in great form and a run of three wins on the trot has seen Eddie Howe’s side claw their way out of the relegation zone. Newcastle currently sit 17th in the table and they have a four point lead over 18th place Norwich.
The new signings at Tyneside have made an immediate impact on Newcastle’s league position. The newly annointed richest club in the world (thanks to the purchase by the Public Investment Fund group) are in a great position now to survive the drop to the Championship. Ex Spurs and Atletico player Kieran Trippier looks like a great piece of business and provided the winner in their last 1-0 win over Aston Villa with a beautiful free kick to take a crucial three points. The hosts today have been consistently good both home and away. West Ham has a home record of six wins, two draws and four defeats and have notably scored in every home league match and 15 of 17 in all competitions. With the Hammers defense being a bit shaky this season, their matches are often high scoring and provide great entertainment.
We’re going to back both teams to score as our bet in this match. Newcastle will be full of confidence with the new signings playing well and battling out of the relegation zone. The Magpies should be able to find the net here. West Ham rightfully come into this match as favorites and should be able to come out with the three points at the end. A 2-1 victory for the hosts is a likely outcome.
